So Say We All!

I didn’t want to watch it. I promised that I wouldn’t. How could they take one of my favorite all time characters and turn him into a girl? It wasn’t right, but they did it and I broke down and watched it and all I can say is: Wow!

I grew up loving Battlestar Galactica. Starbuck was always my favorite character, but then again I always seem to like the smug sidekicks. I’ll take Reiker over Picard (Star Trek NG); Garibaldi over Sheridan (Babylon 5); and though I love Malcom, there has always been a soft spot in my heart for Jayne (Firefly). And as much as I like Appolo, it was Starbuck that kept me coming back to the show. I even ended up getting the complete original series a few years ago for Mother’s Day. And so it was with much wailing and gnashing of teeth (and the fact that we had just finished watching all 10 seasons of Stargate SG1 and needed something new to watch) that I borrowed Season one of the new Battlestar Galactica from my brother and began to watch. I was hooked from the first episode. I even like that they cast Starbuck as a girl, although I hate her in a “Bella from Twilight” sort of way and can’t figure out why all the guys fall for her, I still like her.

For those of you unfamiliar with the story line, here is a basic rundown. They Cylons were created by man, and then they rebelled. They have turned against humanity and destroyed the home planets of the 12 tribes. The battlestar Galactica is the only military ship to survive the attack and as their worlds are uninhabitable from the nuclear weapons, the ship is leading a rag tag team of civilian ships on a quest for the 13th colony (Earth).

The writers of the new show have taken that same original concept and added two very important elements. The first is…There are 12 cylon models that look human. SO we don’t know who is one and who is not. I am almost done with season 3 (there will only be 4) and Have only met 7 of the models so far. The second is…The cylons have religion. They think that they are doing God’s will by destroying the human race.

This is a deeply intense show, but probably the best written TV series I have ever seen (Sorry Joss, I will still always love Firefly, maybe if it had more than one season….) The acting is great, the story line keeps you wanting more. The depth of the characters is amazing. If you like Sci-Fi this is the one to watch! I can’t wait for season 4! So say we all!(Quote from Show)

Parental Warning. It has its dark moments and I for one will not let my kids watch it until they are probably 18. I think they will even get to watch FarScape before this one.
